NRCS Black Emphasis Program

Black Emphasis Program Mission Statement:
To provide focus on issues of employment, promotion, training, retention and
career enhancement affecting Black employees and applicants in NRCS in Indiana.
Each year USDA provides 34 full 4-year scholarships to students attending
any of the 17 historically Black 1890 Institutions. The Scholars Program is
open to students completing their senior year of high school and who score a
minimum of 1000 on the SAT or 21 or higher on the ACT. Selected students must
maintain a 3.0 GPA or better and major in a agricultural related fields, food
or natural sciences, or other allied disciplines. Deadline for applications is
January 15 of each year. This is a student employment program with
non-competitive conversion eligibility.

Presenting--"Hannah Toliver: Early Indiana Freedom Fighter"
The celebration included a drama that
re-enacted aspects of Hannah Toliver's life, an Indiana freedom fighter who
was imprisoned in 1864 for the crime of assisting others to freedom on the
Underground Railroad.
