Indiana Highly Erodible Land (HEL) list

The data presented here is not to be used for NRCS Programs or HEL determinations. Click here for more information on HEL.

These documents are based on the current, official NRCS soils data found at the Soil Data Mart and Web Soil Survey sites.  While they are not usable for NRCS program or HEL determinations, they may be useful for others who are interested in HEL soils in Indiana.  NRCS does not certify the accuracy of the attached data.  

The HEL status is calculated in the same way that the official HEL data were calculated in 1987.  Rather than evaluating high and low values to determine HEL status, the representative values found in the National Soil Information System (NASIS) database were used, so a single status was derived.  There are no PHEL soils included.
