Conservation Programs in Indiana

Teresah P. Caire
Assistant State Conservationist for Farm Bill Programs

NRCS's natural resources conservation programs help people reduce soil erosion, enhance water supplies, improve water quality, increase wildlife habitat, and reduce damages caused by floods and other natural disasters. Public benefits include enhanced natural resources that help sustain agricultural productivity and environmental quality while supporting continued economic development, recreation, and scenic beauty.

The conservation provisions in the Food, Conservation, and Energy Act of 2008 (2008 Farm Bill) will provide conservation opportunities for farmers for years to come. The new provisions build on the conservation gains made by farmers through the 1985, 1996 and 2002 Farm Bills. They simplify existing programs and create new programs to address high priority environmental goals.

View or download 2008 Farm Bill conservation program Fact Sheets and At a Glance information on the NRCS Programs Website.

NRCS has developed a 2008 Farm Bill brochure, that defines how conservation programs can benefit traditional and non-traditional agriculture producers. For information on the brochure and its inserts go to the national NRCS Programs site. Free copies of the brochure and inserts can be ordered from NRCS' National Publications and Forms Distribution Center on the Web at http://nrcspad.sc.egov.usda.gov/DistributionCenter/ or by calling 888-LANDCARE (888-526-3227).
