Indiana Wildcat WatershedOctober 2005 FARMER INFORMATIONAL MEETINGS!Description of WatershedThe total estimated area of the watershed covers 514,671 acres. This watershed is located in central Indiana in Carroll, Clinton, Grant, Howard, Madison, Tippecanoe, and Tipton counties.
The land uses in this watershed consist primarily of cropland, pastureland, and woodland; with 93 percent of the land cover in agriculture. The watershed area is entirely located in the Eastern Corn Belt plains ecoregion and is characterized by smooth plains and soils that are good for cropland. The 1,232 farms in the watershed cover about 442,771 acres, excluding the CRP acres. The average size farm is 350 acres, ranging from an average of 297 acres in Howard County to a 421-acre average in Tipton County. Primary crops include corn and soybeans, with some wheat. Livestock in the watershed area are predominantly hogs, cattle, and chickens. ![]()
