Indiana's RC&Ds are an integral part of helping NRCS and the
Conservation Partnership accomplish our goals. RC&Ds work with local organizations,
groups and citizens to protect and develop economic, social, and natural resources in their
communities.
Each day RC&D demonstrates that locally developed
solutions to local problems work the best--because people know what their communities need and they are
willing to work hard to make them better places to live.
The Indiana NRCS supports each RC&D Council by
providing a coordinator who works hand-in-hand with the council to develop projects and reach its goals.
Although NRCS and many other partners provide assistance to the RC&D Councils,
the key to the success of the program is local involvement and leadership.
Priorities, policies, and ultimately solutions are always developed and
implemented by local people.
As you read the highlights of the projects in this
publication you will begin to experience the broad diversity of the RC&D program in Indiana. Keep in
mind these highlights are a small sampling of the many projects going on in the state.
The one thing that all the RC&D projects have in
common is that they were each developed, planned, and implemented by a local RC&D Council in an effort to
improve the economy, natural resources, or quality of life in their community.
I encourage you to learn more about Indiana's RC&D
councils and how they are making things happen in Indiana.
