Conservation Agronomy Tools

  • Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation - Version 2 (RUSLE2)  RUSLE2 is an upgrade of the text-based RUSLE DOS version 1.  It is a computer model containing both empirical and process-based science in a Windows environment that predicts rill and interrill erosion by rainfall and runoff.
  • Manure Management Program (MMP)  Manure Management Planner is a Windows-based computer program developed at Purdue University that's used to create manure management plans for crop and animal feeding operations.
  • Win-PST  WIN-PST is a pesticide environmental risk screening tool that NRCS field office conservationist, extension agents, crop consultants, pesticide dealers and producers can use to evaluate the potential for pesticides to move with water and eroded soil/organic matter and affect non-target organisms.

    Win-PST Soils - Instructions on How to Download Soils into Win-PST (PDF, 1.27 MB)

  • SNMP  The Spatial Nutrient Management Planner (SNMP) is a decision support tool that facilitates the collection, analysis and presentation of spatial information related to nutrient management planning.
  • Irrigation Scheduler  The Irrigation Scheduler calculates irrigation water needs for corn, soybean, established alfalfa, dry bean, and potato.  This software is a joint effort of Purdue University Department of Agronomy and Michigan State University Department of Crop and Soil Science.
  • NAPRA  The goal of the National Agricultural Pesticide Risk Analysis (NAPRA) process is to help policy-makers as well as farmers to make informed pesticide management decisions on how to prevent or minimize the contamination of environmentally sensitive areas by hazardous pesticides.  The NAPRA process is designed to help quantify the environmental benefits of potential management alternative through the use of water quality simulation models combined with statistical analysis.  Results are probability based and consider both the off-site movement of pesticide and its toxicity to non-target species.
